SEADOV - Our Service

Seadov Pty Ltd is a desalinated potable water supply contractor and, subject to site conditions, is capable of supplying 20 to 50 ML/day from a single SEADOV vessel utilising only MARINE GREEN energy.

SEADOV employs a desalination process that, uniquely, is supplied with non-polluting energy at source. It is proactively drought-proofing rather than passively reliant on rainfall and offers a unique, cost effective and environmentally harmless potable water supply option that ensures the following outcomes:

• Removal or reduction of water restrictions.
• Reduction or removal of the need for future dam construction in coastal regions.
• Reliable delivery of potable water regardless of rainfall.
• By deployment of further Seadov’s, a staged future proofing of water availability to area.
• Affordability to consumers.
• No capital investment risk to water authorities.

The SEADOV potable water supply technology is based on the concept of a desalination plant on board an offshore vessel which uses wind, wave, ocean current and solar energy, as applicable to the site, thereby removing the disadvantage inherent in typical shore-based desalination plants, which rely on pollution-producing, fossil-fuelled electrical energy. Moreover, SEADOV vessels will typically be located well offshore, beyond normal visual range, so as to eliminate visual pollution associated with land-based wind farm energy (see attached brochure).

Although the cost effectiveness/payback period of green energy is site-dependent, SEADOV has inherent advantages in that it utilises offshore wind levels which are generally higher than those onshore and, with the energy being used at source (on board), it eliminates the need for electrical power transmission infrastructure associated with (often necessarily remote) wind farms.

In many areas of the world weather conditions have already necessitated severe restrictions and early, if not immediate, solutions are required to relieve them. SEADOV has a lead time of some 18 to 24 months per deployment and can address all but very immediate needs.

Not being reliant on year-by-year rainfall, a SEADOV deployment(s) can become the means by which potential future restrictions can be further reduced, or effectively eliminated, and can provide a reliable buffer against both future restrictions and projected future growth in a given region.

Moreover SEADOV offers the option of continuing use of discretionary water over and above basic needs, e.g. of continuing to maintain gardens and lawns during drought periods at whatever aesthetic level chosen. In the latter regard, the aesthetics of whole neighbourhoods are badly affected whenever restrictions are in place. Where plentiful, affordable, reliable water can be provided at no environmental or social cost we believe a pre-eminent argument exists for planning an effectively restriction-free future.

Providing for a more plentiful water supply via a SEADOV deployment would be a cost-effective and, potentially, an environmentally superior alternative to future dam construction. Unlike dams, SEADOV does not depend on rainfall and so is immune to that aspect of climate change. SEADOV will also avoid the loss of fertile land and endangered species, and the adverse social effects and economic dislocation associated with new or enlarged dams

To recoup the cost of providing for a more plentiful supply, while at the same time limiting excessive usage, a tiered pricing system can be implemented, as many water supply authorities now do.

However, whether a premium (tiered) price is charged for water used above a base amount or instead a straight price increase is employed for all water, we believe that the public will be more accepting of a price increase that enables removal of restrictions if it comes from a resource that, uniquely, is supplied with non-polluting energy at source and is proactively drought-proofing rather than passively reliant on rainfall.

SEADOV is a water supply contractor that funds its own desalination plants/deployments and then supplies potable water at an agreed price for an agreed term (usually 20 years). Water authorities are not required to supply risk capital.
